Onion

Hazera's hybrid seeds are the result of decades of R&D undertaken with the success of growers always on our mind. Our onion portfolio includes short day, intermediate day, long day, extreme long day and overwintering varieties, as well as a range of set and bunching onions. The varieties are developed for different geographic regions, seasons, climatic conditions, while always keeping abreast of changing market demands and consumer preferences. We created the first onion variety resistant to Downy mildew. Melon

Melons, considered a succulent delicacy from China to London, are currently one of the focuses of Hazera's R&D activities, with exciting new varieties planned to join the existing melon seed offerings. The demand for melons is growing as a popular fruit brimming with natural nutrients, that provides an excellent source of potassium, vitamin C and beta-carotene, and is relatively low in calories, as well as being fat and cholesterol free. Hazera continues its tradition of breeding new products hand in hand with farmers, to ensure that the final product addresses the needs of growers as well as the entire production and commercialization chain. Currently under development are early Galia-type melon varieties with long shelf life, as well as late transplant varieties with a strong plant capable of thriving in low temperatures. Another innovation track centers on the flesh color of melons that are designated for convenience-food processing and packaging industry. Most of Hazera's newly developed varieties are grown 12 months a year, ensuring their availability all year long, and providing extra-long shelf life. All of Hazera's commercial melon varieties have tolerance to fusarium, powdery mildew and necrotic spot.

Brussels Sprouts

Brussels Sprouts have been known in Northwest-Europe for more than 800 years. This smaller member of the Brassica family has only recently started its move to other parts of the world. It is a cute and convenient mini-cabbage with a particular bittersweet flavour and very good nutritional qualities. Surely it will conquer a place in new markets in the near future. We are one of the few breeders with a long tradition in this crop, renowned by the quality of our seed and the frequent introduction of new hybrids. In our continuous improvement effort we are looking for better yielding varieties with vigourous, healthy, disease resistant plants from which it is easy to harvest well-sized sprouts. Hazera’s expertise goes well beyond the crops in which the company is actively breeding. Beside our core crops we sell – and have important expertise in - a large range of other vegetable crops, depending on the market. For parsnip we have a breeding activity oriented at the UK. In many countries we distribute varieties of partner companies, representing in several cases their complete range. In our heritage we also cherish a number of field crops for which we have breeding activities in Israel. In our range of field crops farmers find modern and well performing varieties of wheat, sunflower, chickpea and even cotton. After all field seeds also are a very important activity of our mother company Limagrain.
