Hazera's achievements in tomato breeding are honored in a series of stamps published under the title: Israeli Achievements in Agriculture
The Philatelic Service salutes the achievements of Israeli agriculture in a special series that includes a tomato breeding stamp.

Tomatoes are a central component of the Middle Eastern diet, and the crowning queens of Israeli salads. For years they were grown for local use, with the obstacle to exporting Israeli tomatoes being their short shelf life, that did not enable marketing overseas. Fruitful and close collaboration between Israeli researchers and seed companies, including Hazera Genetics, was responsible for development of tomato varieties with long shelf lives that are suitable for exporting. In addition to extended shelf life, researchers and breeders also developed new varieties of cherry tomatoes, cluster tomatoes and more. In recent years, R&D focused on efforts to breed tomatoes with diverse tolerances to diseases and viruses. The result of these impressive achievements in tomato breeding is that about 40% of current greenhouse tomato crops grown in Europe and North America are from seeds developed in Israel, with Hazera being one of the leading players in this market!
